Cokie's Cookies
By: Pam Katz - MizPam@aol.com

Amount Ingredient
1 cup Dried fruit
1/2 cup Uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup Raisins
1/4 cup Hulled seeds and/or crushed nuts
1 Tablespoon Peanut butter
2 Tablespoons Honey

Preparation Tips:

In a food processor, process all ingredients together except for the honey and peanut butter.  You will have a sticky glob to put into a medium size bowl.  Remove all rings 'cause this part can get messy.  Add the peanut butter and honey and stir until it gets too thick.  Then use your hands to knead the rest to a "rollable' consistency.  Make 1/2 inch balls and place them on a cookie sheet.   Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.  Cool and serve.  They are quite delicious (you'll like them too, but don't eat them all before your bird gets some), and they're just the right size for my Scarlet Macaw," Coconut", to hold.

Pookie's Omelet
By: Kristen - Kckbxgrl@aol.com

Amount Ingredient
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons Finely chopped carrot
1 Tablespoon Ricotta or cottage cheese
1/4 cup Beans, any kind (not refried)
1 splash Milk
3 Tablespoons Chopped green pepper
3 Tablespoons Chopped broccoli
3 Tablespoons Chopped sweet corn

Preparation Tips:

Use any vegetables you have at the time, to add a few new ones besides corn.  My amazon loves yams, most finicky birds will eat a sweet yam.   Mix all of the above ingredients together and microwave in a bowl for a couple minutes.  (Don't use the stove) If you keep fresh veggies around its really fast to make.

Hope your baby enjoys it.  If he doesn't you might try mashed potatoes.  My goffins love them.

Birdie Yum-Yum Snacks
By: Aerielle - aerielle@hd1.vsnl.net.in

Amount Ingredient
1/2 Tablespoon Millet
1/2 Teaspoon Sunflower seeds
2-1/2 Tablespoons Rough ground corn

Preparation Tips:

  1. Roast millet and sunflower seeds
  2. If you want to grind the corn a little more before adding to mix
  3. Mix all ingredients together
  4. Serve to your bird

Your bird might not eat the corn, and if it doesn't, I have a sneaky trick to get them to.  Grind the corn very very fine and mix it into the mixture.  They will eat the corn by mistake!!!!!!!!!

Sharon's Birdie Bread
By: Sharon Dubois - sdubois@computek.net

Amount Ingredient
2 cups Finely ground pellets
1 Very ripe banana
1/3 cup Wheat germ oil
1/3 cup Vegetable oil
6 large Eggs
2 Tablespoons Canned pumpkin
1 Tablespoon Applesauce
1 cup Mixed vegetables
1 cup Cooked or canned pinto beans
1 cup Boiled brown rice
2 cups Corn meal
4 Tablespoons Baking powder
1 Teaspoon Spirulina

Preparation Tips:

Mix the first five ingredients in a food processor until you have a fine blend.  Add the next two ingredients and continue to process.  Pour entire mixture into a large bowl and add the vegetables, beans, rice, corn meal and baking powder, spirulina and stir.  The mix should be the consistency of cornbread.  If it's too dry, add the liquid from the pinto beans.  If there isn't enough liquid add water.  when you have the desired consistency pour into a 13x9 inch baking pan.

Bake the bread at 325 degrees for about 40 minutes or until done.   To test your bread insert a toothpick in the middle of the pan.  If it comes out clean the bread is ready.  Make several pans at once so you can freeze the loaves and use them as needed.  Sprinkle vitamins on the bread and crumble it before serving.  Good vitamins to sprinkle are rass powder.

Sandra's Birdy Muffins
By: Sandra J. Bortnick, D.V.M. breezy@NERVM.NERDC.UFL.EDU

Amount Ingredient

4 cups
Cooked or canned mashed pumpkin
2 cups Cream of Wheat (uncooked)
2 cups Grits (uncooked)
1 cup Oatmeal (uncooked)
1/2 cup Applesauce
1 Egg (including crushed shell)
2 Tablespoons Baking powder
2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
1/2 cup Raisins
1/2 cup Sugar
1 Tablespoon Vegetable oil

Preparation Tips:

Adjust consistency with applesauce, water, or grits.  Spoon into cupcake paper lined muffin tins and bake 20-35 minutes at 400 degrees.  I also use jiffy muffin mix in place of cream of wheat and grits.  Sesame seeds are high in calcium.  I don't use much sesame seed and if I use it I omit oil from that batch

Food Values:

Grits 1 oz:.57mg Ca, 20.7md Phos, .34g fat
Crean if Wheat:  39.79mg Ca, 79.95mg Phos, .37g fat
Sesame seeds 1 oz:    276.41mg Ca, 178.3mg Phos, 14.09g fat
